DC Universe’s Stargirl series casts JSA member Wildcat

December 15, 2018 by Gary Collinson

TV Insider is reporting that Brian Stapf (The Walking Dead) has become the latest addition to the cast of DC Universe’s Stargirl series, with the actor set to take on the role of Ted Grant, a.k.a. Wildcat.

Created by Bill Finger and Irwin Hasen, Ted Grant was a world class boxer who found himself entangled in the criminal underworld and falsely accused of murder. Creating the Wildcat identity to clear his name, Wildcat went on to become a member of the Justice Society of America.

The character briefly appeared in Smallville, where he was played by Roger Hasket, while J.R. Ramirez portrayed the character in the third season of Arrow.

Stapf’s casting comes hot on the heels of the announcements that Joel McHale (Community) has been cast as Starman and Lou Ferrigno Jr. (S.W.A.T.) will play Hourman. They join the previously announced Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, along with Anjelika Washington (Young Sheldon), Yvette Monreal (Matador) and Christopher James Baker (True Detective) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Stargirl follows High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore, who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past and will reimagine the character and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a “fun, exciting and unpredictable” way.

Stargirl is slated to hit DC Universe in September 2019.
