Sinister Six movie still part of Sony’s Marvel plans

December 16, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back when it still had ambitions of spinning The Amazing Spider-Man out into its own shared superhero universe, Sony announced that it would be producing a Sinister Six movie, with Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) brought in to write and direct.

The supervillain team-up was teased during the end credits of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but appeared to fall apart when Sony and Marvel reached a deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War.

Since then, thelong-gestating Venom movie has finally seen the light of day, launching a new ‘Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters’ (sans Spider-Man, for the time being anyway), and according to producer Amy Pascal, the Sinister Six movie could also find itself resurrected at some point in the future.

“I’m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it,” Pascal tells Vanity Fair. “I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I’m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to.”

As it happens, Goddard himself also suggested back in October that Sinister Six could yet see the light of day, so perhaps Sony is eyeing this as an Avengers-style team-up for the fledgling SUMC? Is that something you’d be interested in seeing? And can you even have a (decent) Sinister Six movie without Spider-Man? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
