Sonic the Hedgehog movie Twitter account wants us to ‘Respect the Legs’

December 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It’s probably fair to say that the release of the first teaser poster for the upcoming live-action/CG-hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie didn’t generate quite the reaction that Paramount Pictures would have been hoping for, with the design of the beloved video game character coming in for heavy criticism.

Aside from general creepiness, one of the big complaints related to Sonic’s somewhat athletic frame, particularly his rather muscular legs. And the studio has now acknowledged the backlash on its official Twitter account, sharing an image of an even-more jacked up Sonic holding a sign that reads ‘Can’t a Guy Work Out?’, complete with the hashtag #RespectTheLegs.

Jokes aside, the post does show that Paramount and the filmmakers are aware of the negative reception to the teaser poster and with eleven months to go until the film’s release, there’s still plenty of time to make some tweaks to the design should they wish to avoid any further outrage from the fan community.

Sonic the Hedgehog is directed by Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke) and features a cast that includes Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), James Marsden (Westworld), Jim Carrey (Kidding), Adam Pally (Happy Endings), Tika Sumpter (Ride Along), Neal McDonough (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon).

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to race into cinemas on November 15th 2019.
