The Girl in the Spider’s Web’s Jay Basu to rewrite Battlestar Galactica movie script

December 20, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in the summer of 2016 it was announced that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Mockingjay and Red Sparrow director Francis Lawrence had signed on to direct a big screen reboot of Battlestar Galactica, and now comes word that the project is getting a rewrite.

According to The Wrap, The Girl in the Spider’s Web screenwriter Jay Basu has been hired to work on a new draft of the script originally penned by Lisa Joy (Westworld). Lawrence remains attached to direct, while Dylan Clark (Planet of the Apes) and Michael De Luca (Fifty Shades of Grey) are producing.

Battlestar Galactica launched in 1978 with the original TV series, which was followed by the short-lived sequel series Galactica 1980 and a hit reboot which ran between 2003 and 2009. Taking place in a distant part of the galaxy, it follows the remnants of humanity who are on the verge of extinction after coming under attack by a race of machines called the Cylons, and are searching for the mythological planet Earth, home of their ancestors.
