Cassian Andor Star Wars series will reportedly begin production in October

January 1, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Back in November it was announced that Diego Luna is set to reprise the role of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s rebel spy Cassian Andor for a new live-action Star Wars series on the Disney+ streaming service, and now comes word of a potential production start date.

According to Production Weekly (via Discussing Film), cameras are set to begin rolling on the as-yet-untitled show in October of this year. The project has been written and created by Jared Bush (Moana), while Stephen Schiff (The Americans) will serve as showrunner.

Specific details on the series are being kept tightly under wraps, although it has been described as “a rousing spy thriller [which will] explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

As yet, there’s no word on other talent set to feature alongside Luna, although it would seem a rather solid bet that we can expect to see a few other members of the Rebellion such as Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), General Dodonna (Ian McElhinney) and General Draven (Alistair Petrie), not to mention Cassian’s droid companion K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).

Along with the Cassian series, Lucasfilm is also hard at work on The Mandalorian from executive producer Jon Favreau, which is expected to hit Disney+ soon after its launch late this year.
