The Doctors come face to face with the shocking identity of their deadly foes!
We’ve hit the penultimate chapter of this Doctor Who event from Titan Comics. Doctor Who: Four Doctors from Paul Cornell has certainly found its place and in the last issue of this weekly special comic, which closed on such a cliffhanger [review here] we the readers couldn’t believe how Mr. Cornell had left us hanging.
Last week we discovered that a future jaded and bitter Twelfth Doctor was the person behind the elaborate trap which had led the Tenth, Eleventh and current Twelfth Doctors, along with companions, to the desert planet of Marinus. It’s here we discover that after Clara had left him – at a future time – he wandered lonely for centuries searching for Gallifrey and eventually, as paranoia kicked in, he felt Gallifrey may have been hiding from him; it was here that he came in contact with the Voord. The Voord have hid themselves in a pocket universe, far from the gaze of the Time Lords. Unwilling to return to their old ways before the Time War, they plan on conquering the new Universe using the captured Doctors and Companions as sleeper agents and in-turn, the Voord will become the new Time Lords of the Universe.
Again as with last week’s issue, this comic book is quite brilliant. The idea that a race who became powerful and benefited during the Time War, do not wish to lose said power and have crafted a pocket universe to hide away; then they have also used an unhinged Doctor to corrupt his own history. This is a perfect Doctor Who story! Not only this we also get to see something brutal with in this issue, the Voord are clearly a force to be reckoned with and certainly didn’t go to the “Stormtrooper ‘How-to-Aim-a-Blaster’ Academy” as two companions discover as they make an attempted escape. Paul Cornell is THE Doctor Who writer!
Once again the art and colours from both Neil Edwards and Ivan Nunes are top-notch. We do occasionally get the odd face morphing going on, but with the pace and speed of the comic, these slight errors can easily be overlooked.
Another storming chapter in the Doctor Who: Four Doctors series and I cannot wait to read the final issue!
