With the recent news that Terminator Genisys has enjoyed massive success in China over the past few weeks, it looks like Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is set for a similar run.
Opening in China on Tuesday, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation earned a huge $18.5 million, enjoying the fifth biggest debut in history for a US production, and the biggest of all time for a US-film not made in 3D.
Paramount have had a bit of a good run in China as of late, with Terminator Genisys recently grossing $26.7million, and Transformers: Age of Extinction took $27.4 million when it was released last year. It was also 116% better than previous Mission film, Ghost Protocol.
It is still a little behind the biggest US openings in China though, with this summer’s Furious 7 opening to a massive $54.4 million, followed a few weeks later by Avengers: Age of Ultron with $29.2 million.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is out now, with Christopher McQuarrie directing Tom Cruise alongside fellow franchise veterans Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames and new additions Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules), Sean Harris (Prometheus) and Alec Baldwin (Still Alice).
