Friends creator explains why a revival isn’t going to happen

March 13, 2019 by Samuel Brace

The creator of Friends has once more dismissed the idea of the show coming back to our screens in some fashion.

Friends has been one of the biggest TV properties in history, entertaining viewers across generations and still finding new audiences today thanks to re-runs and streaming services. Talk of Friends have some kind of reunion or revival has been around for years but for one reason or another, it has never happened.

Well, there is a good reason for that according to the show’s creator Marta Kauffman, who listed her objections to the idea of a revival in a recent interview with Rolling Stone:

“There are several reasons. One, the show is about a time in your life when your friends are your family. It’s not that time anymore. All we’d be doing is putting those six actors back together, but the heart of the show would be gone. Two, I don’t know what good it does us. The show is doing just fine, people love it. [A reunion] could only disappoint. ‘The One Where Everyone’s Disappointed.’”

Well, it doesn’t get much more definitive than that. It is true some things are better left untouched and in the past. After all, we can still enjoy the past episodes and our nostalgia for them.
