DC Universe announces Swamp Thing premiere date, new content plans and release schedule

March 30, 2019 by Gary Collinson

DC Entertainment hosted a special DC Universe panel at WonderCon Anaheim yesterday, where – in addition to unveiling a first-look image of Brec Bassinger as Stargirl – we got a number of announcements regarding the streaming service’s upcoming slate of content.

First up comes the official premiere date for the live-action series Swamp Thing from executive producers James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman, which will get underway on May 31st 2019.

Meanwhile, DC also unveiled an updated schedule for its original programming, with Young Justice: Outsiders returning on July 2nd 2019, followed by Titans season 2 in Fall 2019, Harley Quinn in late Fall 2019 and Stargirl in early 2020.

Furthermore, the first season of the Superman prequel series Krypton will be available to stream from April 5th 2019, while the animated movie Justice League vs. The Fatal Five will premiere on April 16th. And, for comic book fans, subscribers will also soon have access to DC’s vast digital comics library, encompassing thousands of issues from the past 80 years.

Swamp Thing follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be gone after all.

Swamp Thing features a cast that includes Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby Arcane, Andy Bean (It: Chapter Two) as Alec Holland, Will Patton (Halloween) as Avery Sutherland, Maria Sten (Channel Zero) as Liz Tremayne, Jennifer Beals (The L World) as Sheriff Lucilia Cable, Jeryl Prescott (The Walking Dead) as Madame Xanadu, Kevin Durand (The Strain) as Jason Woodrue, Virginia Madsen (American Gothic) as Maria Sunderland, Henderson Wade (Riverdale) as Matt Cable, Leonardo Nam (Westworld) as Harlan Edwards, Ian Ziering (Sharknado) as Blue Devil and Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) as Swamp Thing.
