John Boyega expects Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be his last outing as Finn

April 25, 2019 by Samuel Brace

John Boyega doesn’t expect to reprise his role of Finn after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The next entry in the Star Wars saga, The Rise of Skywalker, is being billed as the end of the nine film Skywalker saga as well as being the final film in the sequel trilogy. Therefore, it seems unlikely that we will be seeing the likes of Finn, Rey, and Poe on screen again any time soon.

This is certainly what John Boyega believes, who has told MTV News that he doesn’t think he will be portraying Finn again after Episode IX: “Honestly, the bottom of my heart, I don’t think I am. I don’t think I am. I feel like it’s–I really do feel that way.”

Boyega explains that this isn’t a matter of what he wants but rather that The Rise of Skywalker is a true ending point: “Honestly, no, seriously, I just–this is really that movie, I think everyone doesn’t believe it, but this is that war that just ends everything. So I’m just like, wow, you know?”

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Finn the character won’t be seen again in books, comics, or elsewhere. Where would you like to see the character pop up? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter @flickeringmyth…

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 20th 2019 with J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Mabeth), Richard E.
