Jacob Tremblay to voice The Kid in sci-fi reimagining of Chaplin classic

May 6, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Deadline is reporting that Jacob Tremblay (Room, The Predator) is set to voice the title character in The Kid: An Animated Adventure, a sci-fi reimagining of the 1921 Charlie Chaplin classic.

The film takes place in a futuristic New York City which has been split into two distinct regions following a flooding. Tremblay’s Kid lives with his mother in Uptown, described as “a boring, artless place of overprotective safety”, but after he runs away he finds himself in the mysterious and dangerous Downtown. There he meets Chaplin, a robot with a human soul, and the two embark on an adventure to uncover the mystery behind Chaplin.

Christian Volckman (Renaissance) is set to direct The Kid from a script she has written with Boris Starling (Messiah), while Clément Calvet and Jérémie Fajner (Song  of the Sea) of French animation company Superprod are producing. Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) is also on board as an executive producer.

Young actor Tremblay will next be seen in the R-rated comedy Good Boys, followed by the Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep.
