Ryan Reynolds “leaks” Pokemon: Detective Pikachu

May 8, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter late last night to alert Warner Bros. that the live-action Pokemon: Detective Pikachu has leaked online ahead of its official release this Friday.

Publicly directing people to a pirated copy of your movie when you have some 13.6 million followers probably isn’t the smartest movie – although, as the 4.5 million plus viewers who quickly clicked through to YouTube will have discovered – this isn’t so much a world class blunder by Reynolds as a clever marketing ploy.

As for the “leaked” (watermarked R. Reynolds), what we actually have is what looks to be the real opening of the movie, followed by 102 minutes of Pikachu dancing; check it out here…

“Pokemon: Detective begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu sees Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 2) starring in the title role alongside Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies), Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch), Ken Watanabe (Godzilla), Bill Nighy (The Limehouse Golem), Rita Ora (Fifty Shades Freed) and Chris Geere (Modern Family). It is set for release on May 10th 2019.
