Pierce Brosnan expects new James Bond to be white and male

September 23, 2015 by Tom Beasley

Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan (No Escape) has told the Press Association that the next star to play Ian Fleming’s iconic spy will almost certainly be a white man.

Asked about rumours that a black performer such as Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation) could take on the role, Brosnan said: “Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white.”

Brosnan, who played Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, added that he was open to the possibility of a black Bond in the future, but thought that the role should always be played by a man.

He said: “There’s wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there’s no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond.

“But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he’s all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond.”

James Bond will return to the screen with Spectre, which hits UK cinemas on October 23rd before arriving in the States on November 6th.
