FX developing gender-swapped US remake of Peep Show

May 27, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Peep Show co-creator Sam Bain has revealed that the U.S. TV network FX is working on a gender-swapped remake of the cult British comedy, which is being written by Karey Dornetto (Portlandia).

“People sometimes ask if I look at my earlier work differently now – whether my shows would have been better if they had been more diverse. What would Peep Show have been like with women as the two leads? It’s a great question – and it’s one I’ll shortly have the answer to, because there is a script in development for a U.S. Peep Show with two female leads. It’s at FX Networks and it will be written by top comedy brain Karey Dornetto.”

Peep Show ran on Channel 4 between 2003 and 2015 and starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb as the socially awkward Mark Corrigan and juvenile slacker Jeremy Usborne, two dysfunctional friends who share a flat in London.

Should FX’s Peep Show make it to U.S. TV screens, it would be fourth time lucky, with Fox, Starz and Spike all previously having developed their own versions, although none made it past the pilot stage.
