Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding gets a release date and trailer

May 29, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Sony has finally confirmed a release date of 8th November 2019 for Death Stranding, the next project from Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima.

The release date announcement was revealed through a brand-new gameplay trailer, which you can view here…

The trailer offers a short overview of the story and a fresh new look at the gameplay of this highly-anticipated title (although, I still have no idea on what’s actually going on). The story of Death Stranding consists of the player assuming the role of Sam Bridges, who must traverse a ravaged nation to reconnect a fractured society and save mankind from the brink of extinction.

Additionally, in the trailer, we get a glimpse of foot exploration, the opportunity to ride a motorcycle, backpack management, and the ability to construct items. In terms of combat, there is a variety of gameplay options including third-person shooting, fist fighting and of course, stealth mechanics.

Kojima also has sent out a special message to the fans, via the PlayStation Blog:

“People have created ‘Walls’ and become accustomed to living in isolation.

“Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the ‘Strand’ or connection.

“As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or ‘Strands’ with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

“Now, please enjoy the latest Death Stranding trailer.”
