Matthew Vaughn says Disney’s Fox acquisition hasn’t impacted the Kingsman franchise… yet

June 6, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Matthew Vaughn, the director of the Kingsman franchise, has revealed that Disney buying Fox has not impacted the next film as of yet.

Disney purchasing Fox has certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons, with R-rated franchises like Deadpool being unsure of their future. It seems Disney isn’t going to change too much with these franchises, however, and this includes the R-rated Kingsman films.

Matthew Vaughn, the man behind Kingsman, has spoken to Screen Rant and revealed that so far at least, Disney hasn’t looked to meddle with the formula that has made Kingsman what it is and this shouldn’t impact the upcoming prequel film Kingsman: The Great Game:

“At the moment it hasn’t. I’ve been making them during the transition, so I don’t know. I’ve started to speak to Disney, and they’ve been incredibly smart and welcoming. I was a little bit concerned, going, ‘Well, my film’s R rated. Subverting genre filmmaking. Is that really what Disney wants?’ But they’ve behaved like gentlemen and are very excited. I think they realize that for that company to grow, they’ve sort of hit saturation with what they’re doing at the moment, they need to go into other circles. I think we’re going to be their first big R-rated release, sort of looking forward to it. I’m learning from them, and the honeymoon so far has been bliss.”

Well, it all sounds very positive for Kingsman thus far. Fingers crossed the good vibes will continue and Vaughn can keep making the films he wants under the Disney umbrella.
