Root was speaking as part of the Transgender Trailblazers panel at the Radio Times Festival.

“I’d love to be the first transgender Doctor,” she said.”I know Steven actually and every time I see him I say… ‘aaaand..?’— but the Scottish guy’s got it at the minute hasn’t he?”

Root is currently starring in BBC Two sitcom Boy Meets Girl, in which she plays a trans woman dating a younger man, played by Harry Hepple (Misfits).
