It: Chapter Two screenwriter discusses spin-off possibilities

June 26, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Gary Dauberman, the writer of It: Chapter Two and its precursor, has discussed the possibilities of spin-off movies.

Whenever something hits the big time like the latest It adaptations have, talk of sequels, prequels and spin-offs are never far away. But could this really be an option for director Andy Muschietti’s It movies?

Well, according to writer Gary Dauberman, while it is possible, he doesn’t think it’s very likely, telling Bloody Disgusting in a recent interview: “I’m sure there’s interest. But I gotta say, we want to be respectful to the material of the book. I don’t think anybody’s over there, in fact I know there’s no one over there going ‘Hey, let’s definitely do this and we could tell this story of what happened at the beaver trapping camp,’ or whatever.

“To answer your question I think there is room to build on the mythology of It because It has been around from the beginning of time, but I don’t know if there are any plans for it,” Dauberman added. “I was just very happy to tackle the book.”

No matter what the future might hold for It, hopefully, Dauberman and his director can deliver a fitting second chapter to this most horrifying of tales.

Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “It Chapter Two” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.

It: Chapter Two will see Bill Skarsgard reprising his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, while Jessica Chastain (Beverly), James McAvoy (Bill), Bill Hader (Richie), James Ransone (Eddie), Andy Bean (Stanley), Jay Ryan (Ben) and Isaiah Mustafa (Mike) star as the adult versions of The Losers’ Club. Young It stars Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Jack Dylan Grazer and Chosen Jacobs are also set to reprise their roles from the first movie in flashback sequences.
