Momo horror film in development at Orion Pictures

July 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Orion Pictures is teaming with Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment and producer Taka Ichise to develop a horror feature based upon the Momo viral hoax.

Inspired by Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso’s sculpture Mother Bird, the Momo hoax went viral earlier this year with fake rumours about Momo’s Challenge, a sordid game said to have been hidden in various YouTube videos and designed to encourage children to endanger themselves.

Despite YouTube dismissing the reports, concerned parents flooded social media with warnings about Momo’s Challenge, with the hoax spreading like wildfire.

The as-yet-untitled film will mark the latest collaboration between Lee and Ichise, who have previously teamed on the U.S. remakes of the Japanese horrors The Ring and The Grudge.
