David Fincher to direct Gary Oldman in Mank

July 15, 2019 by Gary Collinson

With his World War Z sequel falling apart after a couple of years of development hell, David Fincher has now signed on for his next feature film project, with Variety reporting the filmmaker is set to direct Oscar-winner Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) in Mank, a biopic of Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz.

Scripted by Fincher’s late father Jack, who passed away in 2003, Mank will reportedly followed Mankiewicz’s tumultuous development of the Oscar-winning script for Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane, which is widely regarded as one of – if not the – greatest films of all time.

Further details are scarce at this point in time, although it’s said that the project will start filming in November, and will be shot entirely in black and white.

Mank marks Fincher’s first film since 2014’s Gone Girl, although he’s certainly been keeping himself busy on the small screen, working on the Netflix shows House of Cards, Mindhunter, and Love, Death & Robots.
