Stephen King writing new ending for The Stand TV series as first castings confirmed

August 3, 2019 by Gary Collinson

During the Television Critics Association press tour, CBS All Access has announced that Stephen King is set to write the finale episode of Josh Boone’s TV adaptation of The Stand, which will include “a new coda” revealing more information about what happens to the survivors.

In addition to that news, CBS also confirmed some of the previous casting reports, announcing that James Marsden (Westworld), Amber Heard (Aquaman), Odessa Young (Assassination Nation), and Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) are officially on board.

Marsden has been cast as Stu Redman, “an ordinary working-class factory man in an extraordinary situation with a damaged quality to him that belies his exterior.”

Heard will portray Nadine Cross, “a deeply conflicted woman who feels the consequences of her actions, but is still compelled by her allegiance to Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.”

Young is playing Frannie Goldsmith, “a pregnant young woman navigating a strange new world, who also has the foresight to recognize that there is evil lurking beyond the Dark Man.”

Zaga plays Nick Andros, “a young deaf and mute man who finds himself in a position of authority when the unthinkable happens. He has a habit of risking his own well-being for the safety of others.”

Other names to be linked to roles include Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act), Greg Kinnear (The Kennedys) and Marilyn Manson (The New Pope), although as yet there’s been no official confirmation on those.
