Henry Golding to play Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe spinoff

August 14, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Crazy Rich Asians actor Henry Golding has signed on for the title role in Snake Eyes, Paramount Pictures’ upcoming G.I. Joe spinoff.

The Joes’ resident silent ninja commando, Snake Eyes was portrayed by Ray Park in Paramount’s first two live-action G.I. Joe movies, although it was confirmed last year that the role would be recast given that Snake Eyes is set to be an origin tale, and will see the fan favourite character unmasked.

Golding will next be seen opposite Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke in the Paul Feig-directed rom-com Last Christmas, which received its first trailer earlier today.

The Snake Eyes movie is being directed by Robert Schwentke (Divergent) and has been described by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura as exploring “the formation of a hero”. It is set to hit cinemas on October 16th 2020.

Along with Snake Eyes, Paramount also remains in development on a third film in the main G.I. Joe series, and – according to rumours – will pit the returning Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Rachel Nichols (Scarlet) and General Joe Colton (Bruce Willis) against the  Crimson Twins, Tomax and Xamot.

Meanwhile, another G.I. Joe spinoff was announced earlier this week, which is reportedly set to feature the character of Chuckles in a prominent role.
