The Conjuring house owners sue studio after unwanted attention from horror fans

October 6, 2015 by Tom Beasley

The owners of the house featured prominently in 2013 horror hit The Conjuring have filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros, after a “siege of their property” by fans of the film.

Norma Sutcliffe and Gerald Helfrich, of Rhode Island, described the “siege” of their property as “Conjuring-instigated”, according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly. The couple have complained of “threats of physical violence and harm, sleepless nights, and worry that one day, one of the many trespassers will commit an act of destruction, violence, or harm” since the film’s release.

The Conjuring was a major summer hit in 2013, scooping in excess of $300m worldwide from a tiny budget of only $20m.

A sequel is currently in pre-production, with James Wan confirmed to return to the director’s chair.
