Scarlett Johansson says Black Widow solo movie brought her “closure”

October 24, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Despite her demise in Avengers: Endgame, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff will be back next year to kick off Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie, a prequel which will pick up events following Captain America: Civil War.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johansson shared a few words on the new film, stating that she feels it offers her a sense of “closure” after almost a decade in the role.

“I can’t wait to share it with everybody,” said Johansson. “It was fantastic. I mean, I’m partial, but I’m pretty excited about. Honestly, it brought a closure to me that I needed. Yeah, ’cause I was kind of wiped out in that last one, emotionally and literally.”

Despite this sense of closure, Johansson has recently suggested that Black Widow could launch its own franchise, although she feels pretty certain that we’ll not be seeing Natasha resurrected somehow post-Endgame:

“There’s very few certain things, but definitely death’s pretty certain, right? Yeah, definitely, for sure. But, people… they definitely don’t believe it and have tried to convince me that my character did not actually die, but that maybe my character exists in an alternate universe, but no, I think death is the final thing.”

Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) and sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff alongside Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff/Iron Maiden, and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) and Olivier Richters (The King’s Man) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. William Hurt (Thunderbolt Ross) and Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark) will also reportedly feature.
