First look images from A Christmas Carol starring Guy Pearce and Andy Serkis

October 24, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we’ve got a first look at A Christmas Carol, the new Charles Dickens’ miniseries adaptation from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, which features Guy Pearce as the bitter miser Ebenezer Scrooge, Andy Serkis as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Voe Alwyn as Bob Cratchit and Vinette Robinson as Mary Cratchit.

“What I wanted to do was to make Ebenezer Scrooge someone who, if it weren’t for what he is and how he behaves, would be an attractive man,” states Knight about his take on the source material. “I didn’t want to make him look like his soul, because his soul is pretty wretched. But on the outside, he’s okay. I wanted the audience to say to themselves, ‘Why is this person like this?’”

A Christmas Carol is set to air on BBC One and FX this December, and also features Stephen Graham as Jacob Marley, Charlotte Riley as Lottie, Jason Flemyng as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, Kayvan Novak as Ali Baba, Lenny Rush as Tiny Tim, Johnny Harris as Franklin Scrooge and Tom Hardy in an as-yet-unrevealed role (The Ghost of Christmas Present, perhaps?).
