Rumour: Rachel McAdams playing Night Nurse in Doctor Strange

October 17, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Last month it was confirmed that Rachel McAdams (True Detective) is set to appear as the female lead in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, and while her role is being kept under wraps, there was speculation suggesting that she’d be playing Clea, love interest to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme.

Well, not so according to Latino-Review, with the site claiming that McAdams is instead portraying Christine Palmer, one of the character’s from Marvel’s Night Nurse comic book series. Palmer is a surgical assistant, so it would certainly make sense given that Stephen Strange starts out as a surgeon before taking on the mantle of Doctor Strange.

Now, it had been thought that Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple from Daredevil and Jessica Jones would be Night Nurse, but last year Daredevil season one showrunner Steven S. DeKnight was quoted as stating that:

“The original Night Nurse that we were talking about, we had her name in a script and it came back that it was possible they were going to use her. They weren’t sure at the time and I’m not sure if they ever moved forward with that on the features side. So we just switched to another character that was very much kind of the same realm of Night Nurse.”

As always, don’t take this as official until we hear direct from Marvel…

Doctor Strange is set for release on October 28, 2016 in the UK and November 4, 2016 in the US. Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is directing a cast that so far includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) as Stephen Strange, Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer) as The Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as Baron Mordo and Rachel McAdams (True Detective) in an as-yet-unconfirmed role.
