Harry Shearer joins cast of Bastards

October 21, 2015 by William Fanelli

The Owen Wilson and Ed Helms vehicle Bastards, set to hit theaters in 2016, clearly has the cast that just keeps on growing. The Simpsons legendary voice-master Harry Shearer, who has voiced just shy of two-dozen characters on the longest-running American sitcom, is the latest to come aboard.

Bastards follows twin brothers Wilson and Helms as they go on a search for their true father, after learning their eccentric mother lied to them about his passing when they were just kids. According to Deadline, the Spinal Tap star has signed on to play the role of the brothers’ stepfather.

Shearer is the most recent castmember to join Bastards, since the addition of Glenn Close late last month. Close is set to play the role of Helms and Wilson’s mother Mrs. Reynolds, an interesting dynamic that should only benefit with Shearer coming on in the role of the patriarch.

The cast of Bastards is rounded out by Katie Aselton (The League), J.K. Simmons, Ving Rhames, Terry Bradshaw and Katt Williams. The script was written by Bad Teacher 2 scribe Justin Malen and is the directorial debut by Lawrence Sher. It hits theaters November 4, 2016.
