James Gunn teases “great things coming up” for Peter Quill and Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

January 2, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although he is currently hard at work on The Suicide Squad, director James Gunn has teased his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios regarding plans for two of the major characters.

While answering fan questions on his Instagram, Gunn answered a question about which of the characters from the Guardians movies were his favourite to write before teasing which two will have great things for fans to look forward to in the next instalment in the series.

“Those are two of them for sure,” Gunn said. “I probably liked writing Nebula and Rocket’s arcs most (still continuing into Vol 3). But I also think we have great things coming up for the others, like Quill and Mantis. All of their arcs take place over the three films as opposed to in only the individual movies.”

There are currently few details on the third instalment as of yet but it seems safe to assume that Quill’s story arc in Vol. 3 relates to the loss of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) in Avengers: Infinity War. There is also no word on a release date yet but Gunn has stated that filming won’t take place for at least another year.
