Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training arrives on the Nintendo Switch

January 3, 2020 by Andrew Newton

Remember that chap on the Nintendo DS that would set lots of brow furrowing puzzles to solve, then determine your brain’s age based on how well you performed?  Well he’s back on the Nintendo Switch to set more puzzles for the older you to once more furrow your brow over.  It’s taken a long time for a brain training game to make it to the Switch but what better title than Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training to fill that void.  Check out the launch trailer below to see what’s new.

With Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training players can put their skills to the test with a variety of different exercises that focus on different aspects of the mind, including information processing speed, short-term memory and self-control.  By performing these challenges back to back the game is able to calculate the players’ overall Brain Age Score.  Players can then compare their brain age to that of their family and friends then boast about who’s got the bigger brain.  There’s even a multiplayer function where friends and family are able to take on unique challenges by using a Joy-Con each.

There’s a range of exercises available, classic exercises (familiar to those who remember the doc’s first appearance back in 2006) can be accessed by tapping away at the screen using a stylus while some of the new ones make use of the right Joy-Con’s IR Motion Camera.

For those wanting to test their brain power at a regular time each day, there’s an alarm feature that will ensure players are reminded every day by the console, even if the console is in Sleep Mode.

Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training is available in UK and Europe both physically (packaged with a stylus) or digitally from the Nintendo eShop.
