Shinobi and Fantasy Zone coming to SEGA AGES on Nintendo Switch this January

January 10, 2020 by Andrew Newton

Shinobi and Fantasy Zone were two very popular arcade games back in those heady neon days of the 1980s and these are the latest two games coming to SEGA AGES on the Nintendo Switch on 23rd January.  These latest two titles join a growing list of all time classic SEGA games available on the Switch, including Space Harrier, Outrun and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Shinobi is a side scrolling action platformer that puts players in the stealthy shoes of ninjutsu master Joe Musashi.  Our ninja hero has been tasked with the mission to single-handedly locate and rescue all the children of the Oboro clan who have been kidnapped by the sinister crime syndicate known as ZEED.  Players will need to make effective use of a variety of weapons, including swords, shurikens, throwing knives and even magic if they are to succeed on their mission.

The game has been given an AGES mode that will provide Musashi with extra health and damage plus an additional melee button.  There’s also been the addition of test, difficulty, reverse time, and stage select options.

Fantasy Zone is a pioneer of the Japanese “cute ‘em up” genre that focuses on a sentient ship named Opa-Opa.  Players will take the very cute mighty space warrior Opa-Opa on a journey of revenge as they defeat enemies and collect coins in the pastel coloured world of Fantasy Zone.

The AGES version of the game will include a helpful Coin Stock assist feature, a Time Attack mode that is ideal for speedrunners, extra bosses and the ability to play as Opa-Opa’s brother, Upa-Upa.

As with previous titles that have made their appearance in SEGA AGES, players can expect all the usual extras such as replays and online leaderboards.

Look out for Shinobi and Fantasy Zone arriving on the Switch on 23rd January.
