The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf anime film coming to Netflix

January 22, 2020 by Ricky Church

With the news that The Witcher‘s first season is Netflix’s most success first season for any of their original series, the streaming service has announced they are developing a Witcher anime film titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

No official synopsis has been released save for a brief blurb for the anime: “The world of The Witcher expands in this anime film that explores a powerful new threat facing The Continent.” The anime comes from the same team as the series with Lauren Schmidt Hissirch and Beau DeMayo producing. Creating the anime will be Studio Mir, the animation studio behind such fan-favourite series like Voltron: Legendary Defender and The Legend of Korra.

Hissrich revealed her excitement over the anime through her Twitter, revealing this project has been in the works in conjunction with the main series.

It's a big day here in #TheWitcher world — and I've been keeping this one secret for over a year! https://t.co/9Rp1ftDO0p

There is no word on when the anime will be released, but it is likely to fill the gap between The Witcher‘s second season premiere, which won’t be released until 2021. It is also unknown if Henry Cavill or any of the other cast will reprise their roles for the anime, but it is safe to assume that will be the case as well.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. Other cast members include Jodhi May, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Adam Levy, MyAnna Buring, Mimi Ndiweni, Therica Wilson-Read, Emma Appleton, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, Lars Mikkelsen, Royce Pierreson, Maciej Musiał, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, and Anna Shaffer.
