As well as returning to direct, King will develop the story for Paddington 2, with the help of Horrible Histories alumnus Simon Farnaby.

Farnaby appeared briefly as a security guard in Paddington and has worked with King previously as one of the stars of the director’s debut feature Bunny and the Bull.

The Paddington franchise is reportedly a priority for StudioCanal following the first film’s mainstream success, scooping over $250m at the box office and breaking records on DVD.

Casting for Paddington 2 has not yet been confirmed, but StudioCanal will be looking to bring back Ben Whishaw (Spectre) as the voice of the eponymous bear.
