Doctor Who’s K9 heading to the big screen

October 28, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Originally published October 28, 2015. Updated April 14, 2018.

According to Doctor Who News, the Doctor’s robot companion K9 is heading to the big screen in 2017, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of his first appearance in the 1977 Doctor Who serial ‘The Invisible Enemy’.

The site reports that the new film – entitled K9: TimeQuake – has been written by Bob Baker, one of K9’s creators, and will be a “great action adventure set in deep space [and] full of dashing heroes and heroines, Androids, monstrous Aliens and an ultimate foe who will also be familiar to Doctor Who fans everywhere; the megalomaniac OMEGA.”

“Bob and Paul [Tam, author of The Essential Book of K9] are very excited about the project and having Omega in the Movie will bring a great new dimension to both characters as K9 faces his greatest challenge,” states the producers. “The names of the Director and principle cast will be released in the new year. Regular updates will be posted over the next few months.”
