Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo confirms only one ending was shot for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

February 4, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo has discussed the ending to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and addressed the rumours regarding multiple endings being shot.

Hidalgo shared on Twitter (via ComicBook.com) that the ending audiences saw in The Rise of Skywalker was the only ending in mind and people should be wary of conflicting reports suggesting alternate endings were shot during production.

“A billion years ago, when [Star Wars: The Force Awakens] was getting started, I pitched an [Episode IX] ending with Ben living on the island in Luke’s place,” Hidalgo shared on Twitter. “But that was never anyone’s call other than the filmmakers’. And what’s in IX was in there once production started. So be wary of ‘different ending’ tales.”

Hidalgo’s comments confirm that the fate of all of the characters featured in The Rise of Skywalker was already planned out and wasn’t changed once filming had started.
