Matthew McConaughey passes on villain role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

October 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Following on from yesterday’s news that Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) is set for a “key role” in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Variety is reporting that Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar) has passed on the part of the main villain for the superhero sequel. The search for the role continues, and is expected to be filled in the coming weeks.

Back in May, MCConaughey revealed that he’d circled several Marvel and DC superhero scripts, stating that: “Nothing has been right for me yet. But I’m sure open to it.” There has also been unconfirmed rumours that he’s wanted for the role of Norman Osborn in Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebulda), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin) alongside new addition Pom Klementieff (Oldboy).
