John Krasinski explains why he wrote himself back into A Quiet Place Part II

February 11, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Despite John Krasinski’s character Lee Abbott dying in the original A Quiet Place after sacrificing himself to save his wife and children, he is set to star in the upcoming sequel. While the scenes will obviously be flashbacks, Krasinski explained why he wrote himself back into A Quiet Place Part II during an appearance on The Ellen Show.

“That’s what ego is!” Krasinski joked. “No, it’s one of those things where I wasn’t really going to do a second one because the first one was such a personal experience which looks insane, now that you’re watching that,” he said. “It was really important for me to continue the metaphor and so we actually start dealing with how this all started so there’s a little bit in the movie about how this all started.”

In the first trailer for A Quiet Place Part II, there appears to be an intense car sequence during the early stages of the apocalypse involving Emily Blunt’s Evelyn Abbott. Krasinski continued to explain how this scene was practical and how is real wife Emily reacted to the dangerous stunt.

“I put her in a car and I said, ‘Alright, you’re gonna go top speed down this car, car’s gonna come at you, it’s like not a big deal, then you’re gonna hit a person. Then you’re gonna keep going and then a bus is gonna come at you at like 40 miles an hour and then it’s gonna hit the front of your car!'” Blunt didn’t love how dangerous the sequence was but Krasinski says she “was being a great sport,” and he also realized he was, “putting my marriage in the car.”

Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

A Quiet Place Part II is set for release on March 20th.
