Knives Out star Chris Evans reveals he begged director Rian Johnson for the role of Ransom Drysdale

March 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

One of the biggest breakout hits of last year was director Rian Johnson’s Oscar-nominated murder mystery Knives Out and while the film has an incredible ensemble cast, one of the biggest highlights of the film was Chris Evans’ Ransom Drysdale.

In a behind-the-scenes featurette on the Knives Out home release (via CinemaBlend), Evans revealed he practically begged Johnson for the role in his pitch for the role of Ransom.

“I don’t even think I let him speak,” Evans says of his initial meeting with Johnson. “I think I just kind of was babbling the entire time about what I wanted to do with the role and what I thought I could bring and please cast me, basically. It was just kind of me just pitching him, just begging.”

Needless to say, the begging definitely paid off for Chris Evans as he perfectly nailed the role of the manipulative, spoiled grandson of the murdered mystery writer Harlon Thrombey who ends up causing chaos and mayhem for the rest of the family.

After Knives Out grossed just under $300 million at the worldwide box office, Rian Johnson and Lionsgate confirmed a sequel is already in the works with Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc set to return in a new investigation. Unfortunately, Chris Evans won’t be returning for the sequel as we’ll be getting a brand new roster of characters and actors.

Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death. With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end.
