Sonic the Hedgehog star James Marsden says he’s already signed on for multiple sequels

March 9, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With the recent video game adaptation Sonic the Hedgehog proving to be a hit at the box office, James Marsden has confirmed he has already signed on for more instalments with the iconic video game character.

In an interview on Variety’s The Big Ticket podcast, Marsden was asked if he was already signed on for sequels to which the actor responded by claiming he can’t talk about specifics of his contract but admitted he’s in for “as many as they want to make”.

“I believe, I don’t know if I’m supposed to say,” said Marsden with regards to his deal for the franchise. “As many as they want to make. Yeah, that’s my somewhat vague answer. It is such a good group of people and it was so much fun to see Jim [Carrey] enjoying himself again. I think this was his second-biggest opening weekend of all of his movies. I was kind of amazed at that statistic. He just had a big smile on his face and he was hugging everyone. It just felt like it was such a cool thing.”

While a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog hasn’t been officially confirmed as of yet, it seems to be inevitable after the film was received positively by critics and audiences alike with a 63% score and a 93% score respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, not only has the film made just under $300 million worldwide, but it also broke the domestic opening weekend record for video game movies.

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth.
