Sony delays majority of 2020 slate into 2021 including Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Morbius, Greyhound and Uncharted

March 31, 2020 by Ricky Church

It should come as no surprise given the current situation, but with film releases continuing to get pushed back Sony announced it has delayed the majority of its upcoming 2020 slate to next year. This includes the big blockbuster releases of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Morbius, Tom Hanks’ World War II film Greyhound and the much-stalled video game adaptation of Uncharted.

Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is a direct follow-up to his father’s Ivan Reitman’s Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, was originally set for July 10, 2020, but it will now be released March 5, 2021.

Morbius, which stars Jared Leto and is set in Sony’s Marvel Universe, was to be released July 31, 2020 but will now be released March 19, 2021.

Uncharted, an adaptation of the hit PlayStation video game series, has had an unfortunate history of delays after losing several directors and already having suffered a delayed production due to recent events. The film, which stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake alongside Mark Wahlberg from Venom director Ruben Fleischer, was set for March 5, 2021 but has now been pushed back to October 8, 2021.

Tom Hanks’ World War II film Greyhound, which he directed and recently released a trailer for, had already been delayed once from a release last year to this summer on June 12, 2020. However, Sony has indefinitely delayed the film without a new release date as they restructure their release schedule.

Other films that have been delayed are Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway and another Sony Marvel project that had yet to enter production. Peter Rabbit was already delayed to August 7, 2020 after it was supposed to be released this past weekend, but it will now be released January 15, 2021. The unknown Sony Marvel film was set for October 8, 2021, but has now been delayed indefinitely.

The only film on Sony’s slate which has not been delayed is Kevin Hart’s Fatherhood, which has actually moved up from its January 15, 2021 date to October 23, 2020.
