Cary Fukunaga says No Time to Die is already complete and “great as it is”

April 7, 2020 by Ricky Church

James Bond fans were pretty disappointed when 007’s next outing No Time to Die was delayed until November 2020, seven months after its original April release date, due to the current health crisis. Despite the unfortunate delay, director Cary Fukunaga has said he believes the film is “great as it is” and doesn’t need the extra time for any additional polish.

The comment arose when Fukunaga was asked by fans over his Instagram account if the delay meant he and his production team could go back and polish the film. Fukunaga stated “Some people have asked me this and although more time would have been lovely, we had to put our pencils down when we finished our post-production window, which was thankfully before COVID shut everything else down.”

To further clarify why they couldn’t go back if they wanted to, Fukunaga said it was mostly because of the film’s budget as well as his faith they’ve already made the best film possible. “Short answer is money. And although Bond is a big movie, we still have to weigh cost with value. And like anything, you could tinker endlessly. The movie is great as it is, hope yall will feel same too when it comes out.”

No Time to Die sees Daniel Craig take on the role of James Bond one last time as he’s pulled back into the world of espionage for a final mission that threatens to reveal earth-shattering secrets. The film’s delay could end up losing $50 million for MGM.

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

No Time To Die stars Daniel Craig (James Bond), Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Rory Kinnear (Tanner), Léa Seydoux (Madeleine Swann), Ben Whishaw (Q), Jeffrey Wright (Felix Leiter) and Christoph Waltz (Blofeld), while new additions include Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Billy Magnussen (Velvet Buzzsaw), Dali Benssalah (A Faithful Man) and David Dencik (Top of the Lake).
