Sam Raimi confirms his involvement with Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

April 15, 2020 by EJ Moreno

While the rumors have swirled for months about his involvement, Sam Raimi has now seemingly confirmed himself as director on Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

During a roundtable-style discussion of the new Quibi series 50 States of Fright, Raimi spoke about his history with superhero films and his excitement for this upcoming film. When the journalists asked about how in his movie, Spider-Man 2, they went on to name-drop Doctor Strange, Raimi went on to say:

“I loved Doctor Strange as a kid, but he was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me, he was probably at number five for me of great comic book characters,” Raimi said. “He was so original, but when we had that moment in Spider-Man 2, I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie. I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project.”

There’s no confirmation from Disney that Sam Raimi will direct the project, but from his own mouth, it seems like his involvement is undoubtedly on the table. If he does helm this project, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will be Raimi’s first directorial effort since 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful, another film from Disney, as well as his first return to Marvel since 2007’s Spider-Man 3 for Sony.

Meanwhile, according to IMDB (via Discussing Film), Raimi will also be joined on the Marvel sequel by production designer Robert Stromberg, whom he previously collaborated with on Oz the Great and Powerful:
