Video Review – Capone (2020)

May 13, 2020 by EJ Moreno

EJ reviews Josh Trank’s new film Capone…

Capone, 2020

Written and Directed by Josh Trank
Starring Tom Hardy, Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Kathrine Narducci, Jack Lowden, Noel Fisher, Tilda Del Toro, Al Sapienza, Mason Guccione, Jhemma Ziegler, and Wayne Pére

With Josh Trank returning to the director’s chair, and Tom Hardy delivering one of his typically much-hyped performances as infamous mobster Al Capone, our critic EJ walked into Capone with high hopes. Sadly, those hopes were quickly let down with Trank’s painfully average directing and Hardy doing one of his worst turns in quite some time. Join EJ as he dives into what works, what doesn’t work, and what could’ve made Capone a better film.

Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind, and his past becomes present. Harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life. As he spends his final year surrounded by family with the FBI lying in wait, this ailing patriarch struggles to place the memory of the location of millions of dollars he hid away on his property.

Capone is out now On Demand.
