Warner Bros. delays Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984, The Matrix 4, Godzilla vs. Kong and more

June 13, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The tough decision to delay two of the biggest films of the year is finally confirmed. Warner Bros. will push back Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984, as the studio maps out a strategy to successfully release a significant film in these troubled times.

Tenet will now open on July 31st, two weeks after its previously scheduled release of July 17th, while Wonder Woman 1984 has shifted its date for the fifth time. It was slated initially to premiere on December 13th 2019, before being moved to November 1st 2019, June 5th 2020 and August 14th 2020, and will now arrive on October 2nd.

“We’re especially thrilled, in this complex and rapidly changing environment, to be bringing Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, a global tentpole of jaw-dropping size, scope, and scale, to theaters around the world on July 31,” said Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “It’s been longer than any of us could’ve imagined since we’ve seen a movie on the big screen, and to acknowledge Chris’ fans as we count down to Tenet’s opening day, we are also excited to offer his masterpiece Inception in theaters for its 10th anniversary on July 17.”

The announcement for Wonder Woman 1984 came from a tweet from its official Twitter account:

Following the announcement that Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984 have been pushed back, the studio then announced a number of additional delays with The Matrix 4 moving from May 21st 2021 to April 1st 2022, Godzilla vs. Kong delayed from November 20th to May 21st 2021, Tom & Jerry shifting from December 23rd to March 5th 2021, and The Witches moving from October 9th to an as-yet-unrevealed date in 2021.

What do you make of these delays? Will you be taking a trip to see Tenet this July? Let us know in the comments below or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real-time. Not time travel. Inversion.

Tenet sees Christopher Nolan directing a cast that includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.
