Producer Jason Blum offers an update on the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie

June 25, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The movie adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s is seemingly still alive despite little to no production news for the past few years as producer Jason Blum shares an update on the project’s development.

In a recent interview with Fandom, Blum teased that the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie adaptation is “rapidly moving forward” but revealed he wasn’t ready to put a production timeline on the film just yet.

“It’s super active, so I really feel like we have a very good shot at getting to see a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie,” Blum said. “I feel like it’s really moving forward; it’s not stalled or anything else. It might seem that way because we have don’t have any announcements about it, but it’s not stalled. It’s moving rapidly forward. I don’t want to put a timeline on it, but soon we’ll get a movie. I really feel confident about that.”

Although we are unaware of when the film will begin production, we do know Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) is still attached to be the director of the film with Scott Cawthon, the video game series’ creator, still on board to write the project.

The last major update on the film was back in 2018 when Cawthorn revealed to Polygon that he had a script written but decided to scrap the idea for one he liked better – resulting in development on the movie being pushed back further.

“I had a script written,” Cawthon said. “Jason [Blum] liked it, and Chris Columbus liked it too, but I tossed it. I had a different idea for it, one that I liked better. I take responsibility for this delay; it’s my fault. [I’m] determined to find the right story.”
