Zack Snyder hints at a very lengthy runtime for his cut of Justice League

July 21, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Director Zack Snyder is known for making longer films. His Director’s Cut of 2009’s Watchmen comes in at over 215 minutes, which translates to about three and a half hours. Though he’s long-teased that the Snyder Cut for Justice League would have a longer runtime like that, he’s now all but confirmed it in a recent interview.

When speaking to Grace Randolph at Beyond The Trailer, Snyder opened up about enjoying making longer films and even credited his background in commercials to why. Asked about how long Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max will be, he offered an answer that will likely delight fans.

“I have famously teased the runtime at 214 minutes,” says Snyder. “Now in its current state, it’s going to end up being longer than that yet. So, it’s exciting to be bringing all this new material to the fans – they get to see all these crazy and awesome new sequences, and I think that’s going to be really exciting for everyone.”

Though he didn’t offer a concrete answer, he did tease that the runtime will officially come out soon. Maybe at JusticeCon, a convention being held by fans for fans this weekend – which is the same place Snyder teased he would show a new clip. “I may show a clip. And it is a small clip. It may be a small clip. Also, maybe there’s another tiny little announcement, just a little thing, for the fans. The clip is…that’s gonna be fun.”

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
