Dune director heaps praise on star Timothée Chalamet

August 6, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune, has heaped a lot of praise on the star of his film Timothée Chalamet.

We recently learned from director Denis Villeneuve, that it is going to be a sprint to get his latest sci-fi film Dune finished in time for its December release. But there is plenty to look forward to when the film does come out, including an all-star cast led by Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet.

Speaking to the Shanghai International Film Festival (via Secrets of Dune), Villeneuve praised his star in the most glowing terms possible, indicating a top performance is on the cards:

“He is a phenomenal actor. He is someone that has a lot of depth, someone that is very mature for his age because Paul Atreides is an old soul in a young body, and Timothée has that… Also, he has features that remind me of old school Hollywood stars. He’s a real movie star. He has that insane charisma. Insane charisma. You put Timothée in front of a camera and it’s an explosion.”

Dune isn’t Chalamet’s first sci-fi effort, having previously had a small role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. But starring in a big-budget sci-fi film is another matter so it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education), and Chang Chen (The Assassin).
