Scream 5 star says the sequel will have some of the “magic” of the original

October 13, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With the upcoming fifth instalment in the Scream franchise currently in production, one of the newest members to the cast has shared his thoughts on the highly-anticipated sequel.

In an interview with Collider, Kyle Gallner discussed how the fifth film in the long-running horror franchise will be going back to its roots and will include some of the magic that the original Scream film had.

“Yes. And I’m the first one to be like, ‘Eh, ya know …’ No, no, no. What I found really, really cool about the script is there’s a lot of that kind of magic that the first one had, which is really cool. I think the people who love the original are gonna really dig this.”

This comment by Gallner closely resembles what franchise newcomer Jenna Ortega has previously stated about Scream 5 specifically how it will “fit perfectly” into the franchise created by the late director Wes Craven.

“It’s crazy! It’s weird too, because when I first started, I said I always wanted to do horror, so this is a huge dream come true,” Ortega said. “I don’t even think there are words in the English language to correctly express how happy, excited and nervous I am for this journey. It’s just so amazing to me. It fits perfectly [in the franchise],” the actress admitted. “Also how incredible that we have the main cast coming back. That is insane to me … throughout the years, the franchise has done really well at calling back and bringing some sort of nostalgic aspects to the script. I’ll definitely say that there are some here.”

Scream 5 features a cast including Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Jenna Ortega (You, Jane the Virgin), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), Mason Gooding (Love, Victor), Mikey Madison (Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers), newcomer Sonia Ammar, and Marley Shelton reprising her Scream 4 role as Deputy Judy Hicks.

Scream 5 is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock). The original writer of Scream, Kevin Williamson, will be returning as an executive producer alongside the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella.
