George Lucas visited The Mandalorian set while Rosario Dawson was filming Ahsoka’s scenes

December 2, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Rosario Dawson, the actress behind Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian, got to meet George Lucas when he visited the set.

Months ago we got news that George Lucas visited the set of The Mandalorian, with Jon Favreau sharing an image of the Star Wars creator holding little Grogu (a.k.a. Baby Yoda).

It turns out this set visit coincided with Rosario Dawson filming her scenes as Ahsoka. The latest episode of The Mandalorian was the live-action debut of Ahsoka and Dawson has recalled what it was like to meet the man who started it all.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, she said: “I actually got to be there on the day that there’s that photo. Someone took a picture of George Lucas holding Baby Yoda. I’m still calling him Baby Yoda—Grogu! I was there that day. I was all dressed up, I was just off to the side of that photo, all done up as Ahsoka. And I remember it broke the internet when that picture came out. It was just an amazing, amazing moment, and we were all beside ourselves. It was definitely very geek-out.

“I was definitely nerve-wracked, and it was great to be there with him and Dave [Filoni]. I mean, it’s a lot of pressure. But it was also really fun. Both of them were looking at me but they weren’t, you know what I mean? They were looking at their imaginations come to life.”

It was great that Dave Filoni got to direct and write her live-action debut as he was in charge of Ahsoka during her animated appearances for the last ten years. The episode has received a lot of praise so hopefully it’s not the last we see of the character in the show.

The Mandalorian season two sees Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) joined by new cast additions Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator) and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.

The Mandalorian season two airs on Fridays on Disney+.
