Dafne Keen confirms that Fox was developing a Logan spinoff for X-23

December 10, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2017 in the months following the release of Logan, director James Mangold revealed that he was tossing around ideas for a spinoff movie focussing on Dafne Keen’s Laura, a.k.a. the adamantium-clawed young mutant X-23.

Now, speaking to Elle to promote her TV series His Dark Materials, Keen has confirmed that a spinoff/sequel was indeed on the cards prior to Disney’s acquisition of Fox, and she hasn’t yet given up hope of returning for another outing in the X-Men universe.

“I got told by some people at Fox that there might be another one, but this was ages ago when we were filming, and they haven’t contacted me ever again,” said Keen. “I feel like we’re just at the beginning, there’s more to be told, and it’s a relay race. I come into play when they’ve already written and done pre-production and decided on doing the film, so as soon as they say, ‘go,’ I’ll happily go whenever.”

At this point, the expectation is that Marvel will ultimately reboot the X-Men franchise for their introduction into the MCU, but with Deadpool 3 reportedly moving ahead with Ryan Reynolds (and multiverse shenanigans seemingly aplenty in Phase Four thanks to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man 3, perhaps there’s still a slim chance that Keen will get to further explore X-23’s story? Is that something you’d be interested in seeing? Let us know on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
