Gal Gadot says Wonder Woman 1984 will show a lonely Diana

December 11, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Gal Gadot, the star of Wonder Woman 1984, says the film will depict its hero as a lonely figure.

There are drawbacks when it comes to immortality. While it’s great not being able to die and everything, for Wonder Woman‘s Diana, it means outliving everyone you care about.

The sad reality of this fact will be on display in Wonder Woman 1984, according to actress Gal Gadot. Speaking to SiriusXM, she said:

“I think that she’s very lonely cause she doesn’t want to engage with any new people. She lost all of her friends from the first movie, just because she’s immortal and they all died and she doesn’t want to experience the loss again. And she doesn’t want people to be on her to see that she’s not aging, et cetera, et cetera. So she’s very, very lonely and she’s by herself and she’s here for an only mission, which is helping mankind be better.”

She also spoke about how she and director Patty Jenkins wanted to make the film feel real and sincere in a way: “It’s such a delight to have a partner and a compass and a director like Patty, to guide us through the storytelling because the fact of the matter is that we are telling a superhero movie; it’s very easy for superhero movies to be too much on the nose or taking themselves too seriously. We talked about earlier, Patty and I before too, to bring something that is sincere and is real, even though superheroes are not real per se. So to know that Patty is there always watching us always, make it, making us feel free to take all the risks we can as performers to give our best performance it’s so valuable and it’s such a gift.”

It sounds like quite a somber premise! Hopefully, Diana can make some new immortal friends to keep her company over the years.

Wonder Woman 1984 reunites Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins with stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Ewen Bremner (Charlie), Said Taghmaoui (Sameer), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe), Doutzen Kroes (Venelia) and new additions Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as Maxwell Lord, and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon), Ravi Patel (Master of None) and Gabriella Wilde (Doctor Who) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
